Steiger, W., Flottweg SE, Germany
(free)At the European Biosolids Conference 2017, Flottweg presented its Xelletor system, the latest design
for decanters used in sludge dewatering. In the meantime, acceptance tests of machines already sold
and other tests under real conditions, including several in the UK, have demonstrated outstanding
performance in terms of cake dryness and reduced power and polymer demand. These three
parameters represent the major components of all operational costs and therefore, this is where the
greatest potential saving can be realised.
The new Xelletor machine can simply be described as a combination of a decanter and a screw
press. The most striking design feature is the open scroll body, which is a tubular space frame
construction enabling high stability and a higher filling capacity of the bowl volume. Flottweg’s new
dewatering decanter also benefits from its high bowl speed generating higher g-forces as well as the
powerful Flottweg SimpDrive® for optimum cake compression.
