With the renewed focus in the current draft plans for sludge treatment, with digestion and CHP to become the norm for many sites, the storage and treatment of sludge presents increased risks to the sites potential to cause a nuisance. This paper will discuss the potential impact of these plans on existing treatment facilities and will explore the cumulative impacts with respect to planning, PPC and Statutory Nuisance. The paper will further explore methods by which the Water Service Provider can look to implement odour strategies to manage their emissions with a view to long term compliance with their legislative and other requirements.
