The NEXT-GENeration of wastewater treatment; the first demonstration of mainstream anaerobic membrane bioreactor treatment in northern Europe: delivery, performance and behaviour insights: PRESENTATION ONLY

Matthew Palmer, Innovation Technical Expert, Severn Trent Water, UK

1. Why anaerobic treatment
2. The design of the trial
3. Results from demonstration
4. Lessons learnt

• AnMBRs in temperate climates are feasible
• Further optimisation opportunities related to membrane performance and methane production identified
• Increased COD:SO4 ratio does not necessarily increase methane content
• Understanding sulphate removal, COD composition and ORP of feeds to AnMBRs is a key lesson learnt
• Further understanding of the impact of digestion liquors on AnMBRs is needed
