Snyder, J., MaxWest Environmental Systems Inc., USA
(free)The City of Sanford historically used land application to dispose of Biosolids. The City began to consider alternative disposal methods due to regulatory changes. MaxWest Environmental Systems, Inc. is a Biosolids management technology provider using a proven gasification process that converts carbon containing material into syngas and inert ash. The result is a 95% mass reduction, production of green thermal energy and clean air emissions. MaxWest provides a cost-effective, environmentally friendly and sustainable solution to biosolids management. In 2009, MaxWest enterered into a contract with the City of Sanford, Florida to design, build, own and operate a 73 wet tonne per day biogasification facility. The facility captures 14 – 23 MJ/kg that are typically contained in the Biosolids, using the energy produced as fuel in the drying process. The system enables operations to be selfcontained; minimizing the need for imported heat and off-site disposal. This presentation focuses on the benefits of our gasification process and our learning experiences from the commercial operation procedures.
