• Two stages to the separation process
1. The recyclables (plastics, metals, glass) are separated from an organic rich stream
2. The organics stream is treated to separate the non-organic contaminants from the foodwaste
and cellulosic (paper/card pulp)
Uses of the pulp stream
• Paper pulp
– Pulp moulded products
– Biomass fuel
– Feedstock for enzyme hydrolysis to produce platform sugars
(Industrial Biotechnology applications)
