As part of the delivery of a major AMP6 capital programme, Stantec has developed the design for 35+ schemes to meet new quality permits (low P – down to 0.5mg/l, and tight Ammonia & BOD permits). Innovative and low build design solutions such as the optimisation of existing chemical dosing, the development of standardised 2-point dosing and tertiary treatment packages, real time control, percolating filter recirculation upgrades, originated from the systematic process modelling of the works. The successful implementation of those solutions relied heavily on the optimisation of the process assets prior to meeting the new permits. Lessons learnt and data collected from the commissioning of those schemes will help inform future designs for the challenging AMP7 capital delivery programme ahead.
