Acknowledging the entwined grand challenges of food security, environmental quality, and public health associated with the phosphorus cycle, there is an opportunity to holistically explore solutions that advance resiliency and a sustainable future. This presentation explores the range of innovation pathways stimulated by the Everglades Foundation US$10M George Barley Clean Water Science Prize from the perspective of a successful technology competitor. The Barley Prize aims to accelerate sustainable P and address the negative impact of toxic algae blooms and eutrophication generated by nutrient release to surface water.
