Predicting the removal of organic micropollutants, via sorption, within ASP: an assessment of the appropriate models within literature: POSTER

Charlotte Monkhouse, Aqua Enviro, UK

(free)

Rationale

• The presence of organic micropollutants (OMP) within the environment is a cause for concern – 45 Priority Pollutants (PS) according to WFD.

• ASP is a globally common WwT processes and achieves partial removal of many OMP. Modelling OMP removal within ASP can
mitigate OMP emissions to the environment.

• SORPTION (adsorption and absorption) is emulated by Kd. It is a dominant removal mechanism in ASP yet is relatively understudied.
Many factors influence OMP sorption to activated sludge (AS)
e.g. OMP properties & process operating conditions.
