Practical approaches to minimise odour emissions at source: PRESENTATION ONLY

David Sivil,  Wrc

(free)

Practical work carried out previously by WRc found that odour emissions generated by wastewater treatment facilities are directly proportional to the odour potential of the wastewater and the turbulence of processes. This presentation will cover potential adaptations of the design and operation of sewer networks and wastewater sewage and sludge treatment facilities to reduce either the odour potential and/or turbulence of wastewater or sludge streams. This will reduce odour emissions, decrease dependency on end-of-pipe odour abatement systems and save money. Areas that will be covered include:

  • Minimising odour generation in wastewater within the sewer network and treatment facilities (such as optimising pumping regimes)
  • Reducing turbulence in channels and tanks (such as reducing weir heights).
  • Comparison of the pros and cons of available options
