Kelda Water Services (Wales)
This paper describes how power costs at Welsh Water’s largest treatment plant, Cardiff WWTW,
have been successfully reduced by tariff optimisation, triad management, pump refurbishment,
pump set point optimisation, aeration optimisation and power monitoring. Overall these
measures have reduced annual power usage by at least 10%. Future plans at Cardiff for greater
power optimisation through further aeration optimisation, ammonia consent removal and
renewable energy from wind and hydro, are also discussed.
