The technique of Filtering Gardens® has been studied in a factory named DECONS S.A. who recycles metals.
After washing metals, water is loaded with heavy metals and organic materials. A follow-up has been carried out to show the efficiency of treatment by phytoremediation. The requested results are achieved without any difficulty. The removal physical-chemical parameters are between 60 % to 80 in Filtering Gardens®. For the treatment of metals (max 97 %) and PAH (max 97 %), Filtering Gardens® show great performance also.
In this study, we analyze also the transformation of metals.
We have carried out analysis of vegetation and sludge in order to know their composition and their concentration in metals. It is proved that metals are mainly concentrated in the mud formed at the surface of the filters. In terms of plants, they just absorb an insignificant amount of metals in their superior aerial parts. Filtering Gardens® use essentially the technique of phytorestoration who differs from phytoremediation by the fact that there is no phytoextraction by plants.
The concentrations of the output conform to the relevant norms and the reduction of all the parameters very satisfying.
