(free)This paper is an overview of the latest anaerobic municipal ww sludge digestion technologies
being used, seriously considered and/or being developed in North America and the UK.
These all have demonstrated increased volatile solids destruction and gas (methane) production capabilities compared to conventional MAD (Mesophilic Anaerobic Digestion) and some offer improved pathogen control. This paper includes STAD (Staged Thermophilic Anaerobic Digestion), Single stage Acid Phase Acid/Gas (A/G) systems, Multi stage Acid Hydrolysis A/G Anaerobic Digestion, CAMBI®
(Thermal Hydrolysis) and other promising, but less developed /popular, technologies: MicroSludge®, OpenCEL ™ and Cellruptor ™ (Bug Buster).
