(free)To generate additional capacity from existing municipal WWTP assets, innovative solutions can be implemented. This presentation will focus on how WWTP sustainability can be increased by including advanced pre-and-post treatment solutions, using intelligent Dissolved Air Flotation (i-DAF).
The presentation will include a number of business cases, demonstrating performance results of i-DAF trials, and highlighting additional TOTEX benefits of i-DAF technology. Business cases will include the results of a primary DAF pilot trial at the municipal WWTP of Rijn and IJssel in the Netherlands, and a separate tertiary pilot i-DAF trial at Macclesfield WWTP to investigate efficient phosphorus removal.
The primary trial demonstrated that DAF can increase TSS removal by >90%, when compared to a traditional PST. Alongside a significantly reduced footprint, increased primary sludge removal via DAF will also enhance biogas generation, and will remove load on downstream treatment processes, improving WWTP throughput and efficiency.
The tertiary i-DAF pilot trial demonstrated efficient Ptotal removal to a treated effluent value of 0.2-0.4mg/l, with a removal efficiency of >95%, can be easily achieved. Alongside Ptotal removal, tertiary i-DAF will polish final effluent, safeguarding treated effluent standards of highly loaded WWTP’s with a robust, low footprint, low chemical consumption, and low maintenance solution.
