Introduction Achieving Regulatory Standards 3

 European Commission’s Best Available Technique (BAT) Reference Document (2018): 200 to 1,000 ou E /m for channelled emissions.

 Achieving upper range AEL of 1,000 ou poses a significant challenge for the UK’s wastewater industry.

Innovative Solution: “High- Efficiency Advanced Biomedia”

 To overcome regulatory constraints and limitations associated with conventional biofiltration systems, and with the view to avoid costly solutions that may not offer the desired performance, this underscores the need for innovative solutions. Treatment configuration

 Pre-humidified process air enters the biofilter, unless the air is already saturated like in WwTW.

 The air enters below the plenum flooring [1] and passes through the first layer – LECA (circa 0.2m bed depth) [2]. Distributes air homogenously.

 Air enters the next layer “HEAB” (circa 1m bed depth) [3].
