What are fugitive odour emissions?
• Uncontrolled leakage of odorous air via gaps in the building superstructure or through open doors.
• They are a common risk of impact from industrial buildings housing odorous processes, which are frequently overlooked.
• Main factors that influence fugitive emissions are:
i. The odorous activities conducted in the building and their emission rate
ii. Building integrity including access doors.
iii. External pressure effects primarily generated by the wind.
iv. Building ventilation systems (if any)
• Emissions therefore tend to be highly variable, depending on the building design, location and operational practice.
