What are nanoparticles?
• Particles in the size range 1 – 100 nm
• Occur naturally as a result of geological/biological processes, unintentionally (as by-products of combustion) and intentionally engineered (ENPs).
• ENPs may be carbonbased, organic, inorganic or quantum dots and are used in a very wide range of products.
• Use has increased rapidly over the last decade – increased inputs to the environment
