Carbon Footprint of processes has become an evaluative feature Wastewater Treatment Process
Applications. The first section of this is paper details the carbon footprint for Modular Plastic Media taking into account the production of the raw material PVC and Polypropylene (PP) used for trickling filter, BAF and SAF applications. It details the carbon footprint of manufacturing the modules and goes on to detail the carbon footprint carbon footprint of the media installation. The breakdown figures are completed with the carbon footprint over a 25 year operational period and compare it to a similar cycle for an Activated Sludge Plant for a similar application. This demonstrates the environmental and financial benefits of using low electrical power consumption systems.

The second section of the paper deals briefly with the well known applications of plastic media filters in
BOD and Ammonia treatment while highlighting the application of trickling filters for ammonia consents as low as 1mg/l. Finally it introduces the experience gained in Europe for using trickling filters in denitrification applications.
