Flo-Dry Engineering Ltd, Auckland, New Zealand has installed a two stage demonstration drying system in co-operation with Watercare Services Limited, Auckland, New Zealand. One t/h of tertiary treated sludge is dried from 22 % dry solid content (DS) to 95% DS in two stages. More than two thirds of the water content is removed by a direct fired rotary drier provided by Flo-Dry. The second stage of the drying takes part in a belt drier from Klein Abwassertechnik. This paper introduces our approach to simulating the demonstration plant. Equations used to model the rotary dryer and the belt dryer are shown and some dynamic simulation results are presented.
