Through the Wyre Waters Catchment Partnership, the Wyre Rivers Trust has developed collaborative projects with a wide range of partners. The delivery of wetland projects was on the radar of the partnership from the outset and four years later its first farm wetland was delivered as a part of a United Utilities funded initiative to improve bathing water quality. Much like buses, wetland opportunities frequently come in pairs and an opportunity to deliver an urban wetland at the edge of an industrial site is now bearing fruit and we should see the completion of the wetland by October 2019.
Our presentation will seek to highlight the benefits of working in partnership across catchments for the delivery of wetlands in areas where land use often means that creating space for water and habitats is not a common consideration. We will also consider the benefits of wetlands to the wider environment, flood risk management, biodiversity and how they fit into the natural capital approach.
The presentation will also showcase the importance of collaboration and the financial, environmental and societal benefits which can be realised when wetland projects are delivered in partnership by regulators, local authorities, major landowners, NGO’s, Water Companies, Agriculture and the community.
