Wessex Water is working with the Environment Agency to trial catchment permitting during AMP6 to deliver phosphorus reductions and environmental benefits at a significantly reduced cost, approximately £25m less than the standard treatment solutions
Catchment permitting represents a more sustainable solution by optimising existing assets, trialling innovative technologies and enabling wider catchment solutions, all of which could reduce chemical and energy requirements
This approach compliments the key themes of the Water Framework Directive: sustainability, source apportionment and focussing on environmental improvement in a technically feasible and cost effective way
