(free)Abstract Being able to dewater more liquid prior to recycling sludge to agricultural land has been a “holy grail” of the water industry for years. Bucher presses appear to be able to offer significantly higher dry solids then conventional technology. Thames Water have been on a process over the last 3 years looking to validate these claims, carrying out pilot scale dewatering on a variety of sludges across Thames Water, and now installed a full scale press at Oxford which has now been fully operational since February 2013.
This paper compares the results from pilot scale testing with the performance found on the full scale installation. This paper also reports Thames Water operational experience.
Keywords: Dewatering, high dry solids, scale-up from pilot scale to full scale
