(free)Application of the right knowledge in a project is vital to its success. Middle East odour projects are
never routine or without challenge, for example ensuring an underground Sewage Treatment Works
in the middle of a large multi billion pound housing development is accepted as good neighbour! To
ensure the right knowledge is obtained for the project, MWH taps in to a dedicated Air and Odour
knowledge community utilising global expertise to share, discuss and transfer knowledge with over 90
members in more than 8 countries.
This paper describes the current odour issues within the Middle East Region; investigating the
sources of odour, minimisation techniques and odour elimination via a wide range of technologies
frequently used within the region. The use of dispersion modelling to assess nuisance levels from
existing / proposed works will be shown and how this can be used to ascertain the most effective
solution to the problem. Specific cases are presented to describe how Global knowledge is applied in
Middle East projects and how the UK can benefit from knowledge of local practices in the Middle
East.
