(free)The paper will describe how Severn Trent Water have decided to adopt the unique ballasted BioMag technology at their site in Rugby. BioMag uses a ballast called Magnetite to improve the settlement and quality leaving the WWTW. The speakers will introduce the audience to the BioMag process that was successfully tested during the National CIP trials at Wessex Water (Bowerhill). They will explain the drivers at Severn Trent Rugby to produce a lower Phosphate in the effluent (T-P of less than 0.32 mg/l) as well as the need for greater throughput (15%) through the works without the footprint space to easily expand capacity by the conventional approach of simply adding more Clarifiers.
The speaker will explain the options that were considered and why the BioMag process was eventually adopted. The speaker will also show the results of Solids Flux Tests which will demonstrate how BioMag will achieve the extra throughput.
Finally detail of the physical changes required to the Rugby WWTW to install the technology will be discussed.
