Abstract:

Manufacturing of our consumer goods is based on specific and in many cases by patent protected know how. During the production route often side steams with by-products and/or waste streams appear as suspended solids in water. Depending on their physical properties the solids could be removed mechanically and dehydrated to desired moisture.

Table 1:                Side streams; Dehydration and Disposal Route

Industry DSmax [%] Disposal Route
Food 5 – 25 agricultural soil improvement
Chemistry 20 – 30 incineration
Pulp & Paper 30 – 60 incineration
Tannery 40 – 60 incineration
Biogas from Food 5 – 25 agricultural
Biogas from Recycling 30 – 50 agricultural/incineration
Biogas from Manure 30 – 50 agricultural
Mining 70 – 80 Landscaping, cement oven, brickworks

The System of Bucher press originally was designed for fruit juice in 1965, but its application widened to vegetables, spices, herbs and even animals entrails till 1995. From 2003 the industrial utilisation expanded to municipals sludge and the applications mentioned in Table 1.
