Opportunities to realise revenue from biogas are increasing.  However, to realise these opportunities introduces both technical challenges to enable plant and systems to respond along with the dynamic analysis and understanding of operational, prices, and market parameters.   With respect to the operation of assets and systems to enable optimised operation this requires change/modification to instrumentation, control and maintenance practices.  With regard to prices and market value this needs to be managed dynamically, which can be based on annual price structures or in day.  At United Utilities we have been exploring and developing our biogas storage and CHP engine operations to operate more flexibly.  Key parts to this are:

• Developing system management and control approaches to enable generation to respond
• Developing data analysis and reporting to visualise performance and support operational feedback to implement and sustain opportunities
• Looking at flexible operational scenarios to optimise revenue streams.
