It’s estimated that the State of Sao Paulo’s landfills can generate about 340 MW of electricity in 2006. From this amount, 76% are concentrated at the Metropolitan Region of Sao Paulo. That’s one of the conclusions from CETESB (Companhia de Tecnologia de Saneamento Ambiental – State of Sao Paulo’s Environmental Company) and SMA-SP (State of Sao Paulo’s Environmental Secretariat) at the project signed with MCT (Science and Technology Ministry of Brazil) to elaborate Guides of “Energetic Recovery and Use of Biogas” generated by solid waste disposal and wastewater anaerobic treatment. The project might include others states, as PR, SC, RS, MG, RJ, ES, BA among others.
