• Catchment approach and carbon initiative
• Alternatives to chemical solutions
• TOTEX hierarchy
• New end to end process
EBPR the challenge This scale of EBPR (Enhanced Biological Phosphorus Removal) conversion programme has not done before in the UK Water Industry. Re-use the existing nitrifying activated sludge plants (ASPs) at 14 sites (3.1 million PE) to push the microorganisms to remove P using the same structures. Lower Carbon, OPEX and TOTEX than chemical dosing despite higher initial capital investment Identifying optimum EBPR solution via extensive computer modelling (BioWin) Modifications of existing ASP whilst maintaining compliance – will require careful management for each site due to complicated interface with operational teams including sludge treatment.
