A fire incident occurred in February 2004 at Anglian Water’s Pyewipe STW drying plant. This plant consists of a single rotary drum rated at an evaporation capacity of 3 tonnes/hr. The drying plant is operated and maintained by the AWS site operations team. This paper will describe the incident and discuss possible reasons why the incident happened the way it did. Operational response and the incident management will also be reviewed. The paper will describe the changes made to the operational procedures, and the scope of the current capital investment to improve the operability and safety standards of the existing plant at Pyewipe.
