Achieving cleaner bioresources: future soil health and circular economy perspectives: POSTER

Cloy, J. and Kitching, N., Fidra, UK

The Problem
Bioresources contain essential plant nutrients and soil health enhancing organic matter. Recycling bioresources to land reduces reliance on chemical fertilisers and extraction of non renewable resources. However, treated sewage sludge (biosolids) and other industrial wastes (digestates, food waste composts) often contain persistent chemical contaminants (PFAS, flame retardants, bisphenols, pharmaceuticals, PAHs, POPs) and microplastics that have detrimental environmental impacts.
