Merry, J. – Imtech
(free)As part of Imtech’s post-handover optimisation package for Howdon AD, the 2013 operational data for Howdon AD was assessed. Operational performance data for three other UK Thermal Hydrolysis AD sites (Bran Sands, Cardiff and Afan) was also collated and assessed, thus allowing the performance at Howdon to be put into context.
A theoretical assessment of the influence of feed sludge composition on biogas energy production was used to demonstrate whether actual biogas production at each site was as expected. The influence of the THP feed sludge dry solids content on the supplementary fuel requirements was also examined.
The performance comparison allowed potential areas of optimisation at Howdon and Bran Sands to be clearly identified. The anticipated operational cost savings associated with particular process improvements at Howdon and Bran Sands were quantified.
The Biosolids conference attracts the most authoritative global experts in the area of biosolids and organic resource handling, treatment and recycling. The programme covers both the latest innovations and updates of existing technologies. Presentations from respected industry experts and newcomers follow the development of technologies and legislation from inception to full-scale installations.
The conference regularly gathers over 200 delegates from all over Europe, many of them return every year both for the technical presentations and fantastic networking opportunities.
Regular conference themes include:
• Thickening and Dewatering
• Modelling Sludge Handling and Utilisation
• Commissioning and Operating Experiences with Thermal Hydrolysis
• Tackling Potential Odour Problems
• Operating Experiences and Potential Problems in Digester Operation
• Ensuring Optimum Energy Recovery from Biogas
• Liquor Treatment and P Removal
• Alternative Products from Sludge
• Enhancing the Value of Biosolids and Digestate
• Pathogens and Pollutants In Digestate
