Xelletor: Euroby offers Flottweg’s new dewatering decanter The Xelletor system is Flottweg’s latest design for decanters to be used in sludge dewatering. Comprehensive tests have demonstrated outstanding performance achieved in terms of cake dryness as well as reduced power and polymer demand, these three items being the major components for the total amount of operating costs. This performance has been confirmed by machines which have already been sold and operating under real conditions. The optimized decanter performance is basically the result of the superposition of centrifugal dewatering and mechanical pressing – the new Xelletor machine can be simply described as a combination of a decanter and a screw press. The most striking design feature is the open scroll body which is a tubular space frame construction enabling high stability and a higher filling capacity of the bowl volume. Flottweg’s new dewatering decanter also benefits from high bowl speed generating high g-forces as well as the powerful Flottweg SimpDrive® for optimum cake compression.
Introduction:
Mechanical dewatering is one of the final stages when processing the sludge generated during
mechanical biological waste water treatment. For all systems applied in this process stage the three
critical factors are cake dryness, polymer demand and power consumption since the costs for
disposal of the cake after mechanical dewatering are the most important parameter, no matter if the
dewatered sludge is used for thermal drying and incineration, landfill or agriculture. The following
paper describes a new decanter design called Xelletor, which stands out due to enhanced separation
performance and cost efficiency.
