Developing countries are facing, significant sanitation problems that continue to be maintained by under investments in the sector and lack of financial profitability of sanitation projects as they are currently designed. In this context, this paper has focused on the analysis of the possibility of promoting this sector through the inclusion, in sanitation projects, of financial incentives such as the valorization of cladocerans that grow in wastewater stabilization ponds. For this purpose, a model-based approach was adopted for estimating the production of cladocerans. Then, a profitability analysis was performed based on (i) the sale of cladocerans biomass as frozen or dry products, and (ii) the use of this biomass in fish production. Results showed that both options were profitable in Benin socio-economic context depending on the reimbursement of investments.
