(free)Odour management is an issue of increasingly concern for the wastewater sector as residential properties encroach ever closer to wastewater treatment sites, and as public expectations and regulatory pressures in relation to odour nuisance increase.
In recent years, innovative online software tools have been developed which enable rapid collection and processing of real-time data which can greatly enhance the ability of wastewater treatment plant operators to respond to odour issues and manage odour impact risks, opposed to the conventional approach which was very much based on reactive investigations initiated once an event had occurred.
This paper provides an oversight of these real-time tools as illustrated within the Ortelim dynamic atlas platform and discusses how they can be applied to enhance odour management in the wastewater sector, with specific reference to the following:
