The genomic diversity of UK industrial anaerobic digesters resolved from metagenomes: PRESENTATION ONLY

Quince, C., University of Warwick, UK

(free)

Introduction
• Environmental DNA sequencing allows the in situ study of microbial communities without cultivation
• 16S rRNA gene sequencing has revealed the diversity of microbiomes
• But metagenomics followed by contig binning has rewritten our understanding of the function of those organisms:
• Candidate Phyla radiation (Brown et al. Nature 2015)
• Comammox (Maartje et al. 2015)
• Highly relevant for anaerobic digestion reactors
